A few firsts

The last couple of weeks have been full of a few firsts for me, Ethan, and Emma. (Mike is great, just not really doing much "new"!)
Ethan and I made a craft from Family Fun. It was easy and fun. Here he is with the finished product.
All you do is make ice and add color to it. Let those freeze. Fill an 8 inch cake panwith water and put a plastic cup filled with water at the edge, freeze for an hour. Add the ice and let it freeze the rest of the way. Hang up outside. The directions say to use light colors so the sun can shine through, but Ethan wanted dark colors. I think it turned out pretty cool though.
I went on my first field trip of the year with the kids. We went to free day at the zoo with a couple of my cousins and thier kids. It was the first time Emma had ever been to the zoo. She was so good the whole time.
My favorite part of the zoo was when we were in the monkey house and a baby gorilla came up to the glass and looked right at Emma. By the time I realized what was happening and got my camera out, the camera shy little guy was running away.
The first time Ethan went to the zoo, he was so afraid of the big elephant statue. This time, he climbed right on up to the trunk.
I took snacks for all the kids to eat, frosted animal crakers, what else? And this was Emma's first taste of one.
I think she liked it.
I tried to give Emma some apple juice a month or so ago and she hated it! Maybe I added too much water. I tried giving it to her again, this time with less water and she loved it!
There were a few more firsts for Emma too.
After going to the doctor for her 6 month check up she has been eating lots of new foods. The american pediatric association changed their feeding guidelines. I was told that I could give her eggs, wheat, and meats NOW! My doctor told me to make a peanutbutter sandwich and "break it up like the sacrament" and give it to her. She loves peanutbutter. Must get that from Mike. (I used to until I was pregnant with her!) She likes the turkey sticks that I've given her and I am excited because I now have more foods in my house that she can eat and I won't have to buy as much baby food as often!!

I saw that craft idea in family fun and thought it looked pretty cool. Looks like it turned out great!

How fun! I loved it when my kids could eat more table food! I'm glad she's liking it. Hey when do they have free Zoo days? I had heard they did that in the winter, but could never find out when. I'd love to take my kids!
